About us
This farm called Voorspoed has been in our family for 6 generations. The Boer war took place on the farm and the English burnt down the main farmhouse. The main 4-sleeper guest house was then built from scratch and was recently renovated.
This farm was one of the biggest dairy farms in SA at a point in time producing its own dairy products and selling it to shops in Ermelo, Piet Retief, Bethal and Hendrina. The new 2 sleeper units were built for a farm school but was no longer funded after 1994 and sadly had to be closed. We renovated the school to have these 3 beautiful units.
DE JAGER FAMILY:
Hendrik de Jager, the heart of the farming business had a love for farming since day one. He grew up in the farmhouse we are currently occupying and grew up on the dairy farm getting to know the community and loving the outdoors. He studied B.sc Agriculture at the University of the Free State and learned and farmed with his father and hero until he passed away in 2019.

Hendrik and I met in Bloemfontein where we studied and were best friends until we weren’t anymore. I studied B.sc Dietetics and is working full time in a state hospital with the community to help improve general health. I’m a lover of the outdoors and before having kids, I did a few 5150 and 70.3 triathlon races myself.
We are a family of 5 and love spending time at the river and having picnics at our various spots.
SORGENFRI MAIN GUESTHOUSE
SORGENFRI main guesthouse is situated approximately 300m from the water’s edge of the dam. It has a private garden and an outside braai for lovely picnics under the oak tree. The sheep’s kraal is close to the house which makes for great afternoon walks to the lambs and a short walk to the river.

These newly built units can accommodate a total of 2 guests each. Situated on the opposite side of the dam. You can expect tranquility and your own little piece of heaven to drink in the sights and sounds of nature. A place to completely unwind and recharge your batteries.

Welcome to Sorgenfri farm stay, situated on a working agricultural farm.
Sorgenfri is an exceptional triathlon training venue with a beautiful 5 hectares dam for training of +/- 700m laps.
Several routes for running, but a marked scenic route of 8km for trail running/ cycling.
The cycling routes vary in distances and the longest circle route is 50km with a mountain bike.
This makes for great training for ironman and ironman70.3 with a shorter 51.50km (5150) in training.
– 1.5km swimming
– 40km cycling (mountain bike)
– 10km trail running
Other activities include fishing with the beautifully meticulous and well stocked bass and carp dam. Our larger dam that is only a short distance drive is an impressive 12 hectares in size.
For the hunters at heart there is a shooting range with gongs at 50m, 100m, 210m, 300m, 400m and 1000m
For the bush baby (LSA type aircraft) flyers looking for a getaway, this is ideal as there is an airfield made for our very own bush baby aircraft.
This charming venue offers natural scenery with free-roaming sheep and cattle. The birdlife is remarkable with several species that nest on the farm on a regular basis. The accommodation on the farm consists of 4 well-equipped self-catering units. 3 units consisting of 2-sleeper cottages with beautiful dam views and our larger 4-sleeper house close to the main farmhouse. In total the farm can accommodate 10 guests, which makes Sorgenfri the ideal venue for small training group bookings.
